St. Michael the Archangel - South Shore

Opportunities at the Altar

It is an Honor, a privilege, and a responsibility to serve the Lord and His people as a liturgical minister.

Liturgical services are not private functions, but are celebrations of the Church, which is the "sacrament of unity," namely, the holy people united and ordered under their bishops. Therefore liturgical services pertain to the whole body of the Church; they manifest it and have effects upon it; but they concern the individual members of the church in different ways, according to their differing rank, office, and actual participation. (CONSTITUTION ON THE SACRED LITURGY Paragraph 26).

Servers, lectors, commentators, and members of the choir also exercise a genuine liturgical function. They ought, therefore, to discharge their office with the sincere piety and decorum demanded by so exalted a ministry and rightly expected of them by God's people. (CONSTITUTION ON THE SACRED LITURGY Paragraph 29)  We are always in need of people to sign up to faithfully serve at the Liturgies in our church. Please consider offering yourself for service to the parish and through your service at the altar grow in your love for Jesus…..

Contact the Pastoral Center 73.734.4921 if you wish to serve the Lord.

Altar Servers

Altar Servers are welcome, encouraged and needed. Servers assist the priest in the celebration of the Eucharist. Because of their close association with the priest at mass they have a most serious and important duty. Depending on the feast and degree of celebration, functions will vary. The servers' presence is necessary and adds great dignity to the liturgy. Young people wishing to be servers are ordinarily contacted and trained by Mrs. Rosa Pelaez and religious education program.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

The extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion are commissioned to assist the priests and deacons with the distribution of Holy Communion during the celebration of the mass. Training will be provided and ministers are expected to function according to the guidelines set forth by the pastor. To serve as an extraordinary minister of communion, an individual must be a baptized and a confirmed member of the Catholic Church; a registered parishioner of Saint Michael and living a life in harmony with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Lectors

The lectors are scheduled to proclaim publicly scriptures at the Sunday liturgies and holy day masses, as well other liturgical and non-liturgical celebrations held in our church. Training will be provided and ministers are expected to function according to the guidelines set forth by the pastor. To serve as a lector an individual must be a baptized and confirmed member of the Catholic Church; a registered and active parishioner of Saint Michael, living a life in harmony with the teaching of the Catholic Church.

Ushers & Greeters

The Greeters are our ministers of hospitality before and after our liturgical celebrations in our church. They are the first people to greet worshipers in the House of God and represent the Saint Michael Parish Community to all who worship with us. Not only do the Greeters welcome people to the liturgy but they also pass out bulletins after mass and help provide a more welcoming and friendly setting for people to come "home" to pray. The Ushers have the duty of taking up the collection and in general attending to any needs of the congregation that arise before during or after the liturgy. For the most part, they help preserve good order in the church. Training is provided. Responsible teens and adult men and women are welcome to join these ministries.

English & Spanish Choirs

Our Liturgical Music Program offers a diversity of styles and repertoires from the Church's treasury of sacred music. Our music program provides parishioners with opportunities to share their musical talents with the parish. Attendance at rehearsals is expected for those who wish to sing and play an instrument at mass on Sunday. Our 5:00pm. Saturday and 8:00am Sunday Masses are led by our Cantor and Pianist. Our 9:30am Mass is led by our choir and Cantor. The Choir also provides Music during our special Holiday Masses such as Christmas and Easter. We meet at 9 on Sundays to prepare for Sunday Mass and have special rehearsals for the Holiday Masses. If interested in joing the choir, please contact Michael Williams at 773.734.4921.

The 11:00am Mass is lead by our Spanish Choir which rehearses before Mass on Sundays. If you are interested in singing in either choir please contact the directors who are willing and eager to work with you to discern exactly where you would best fit into the Liturgical Music Ministry Program. If interested in joining the choir, please contact Andrea Murillo at 773.734.4921.
